Should people who smoke in public be charged with attempted murder?

It seems to me that people who smoke in public or even at home in the presence of non-smokers is exposing others to poisonous gases. Tobacco smoke may not kill you instantly but it can cause cancer, emphysema, various respiritory conditions, and even other types of cancer besides lung cancer. Breathing second-hand tobacco smoke can be very dangerous to people who have respiritory problems. I think it should only be legal to smoke outside on your own property. It should only be legal to smoke in your own house or apartment if no non-smokers live in your household. Smoking in ANY public place should be illegal. What do you think?

How is it consistent to oppose the death penalty for murder and to favor abortion on demand?

I don’t get liberalism: To wax sentimental over vicious killers while casually tossing prenatal human victims into the trash?
Lisa, aside from not addressing the question, the Supreme Court has consistently recognized that the death penalty for murder is not cruel and unusual, perhaps because the Constitution itself refers to “capital” crimes, thus implicitly recognizing the justice of the death penalty.
Those who take the radically unscientific view that the prenatal child is not a living human individual should consider that Hitler did not consider the Jews to be living human individuals. We get into big ethical trouble when try to redefine our potential victims as subhuman.
Origen, good answer; but could you clarify what you mean by “hard cases”?
Excellent, Misty. Those who argue that the prenatal child is not a living human individual never seem to be able to demonstrate that the child is alive, or a human, or an individual.

Have they never seen the 4-D scans of the developing child in utero?

Catholics: Homosexual acts in the same category as Murder?

May 16, 2010 · Filed Under Religion & Spirituality · 17 Comments
Sara asked:

I was reading that homosexual acts and Murder are both Mortal Sins and are both forgiven through confession, how is it that homosexual acts are in the same category as murder?! If so, tons of millions of people who experiment with same sex in the Catholic eyes must be seen as the same way of killing someone? Please help me clarify this, I am so confused!

Is the mass murder in Crandon, Wisconsin today an argument for taking away guns?

From the civilian law enforcement people? It was a Sheriff’s deputy that did the shooting.

Other civilians should not have their Second Amendment rights infringed upon either, because they might need to protect themselves from a nut-case that could be from anywhere.

It seems to me that a logical, albeit miraculous, progression of the Human species would be to stop killing one another. I suppose there would need to be a trigger for an international peace to exist, maybe some common danger to Humanity. What do you think?
