Can you help me find this murder mystery author?

Lisa C asked:
I read a good murder mystery that I gave away, neglecting to write down the name of the book or author. The main character, as I remember, had been a male police officer, was independently wealthy, and had a girlfriend. Of course, he seemed to get himself involved in murder cases. The book was filled with dry humor, and really fun to read. I think the author was male.
