“Theme” isn’t really the right word as murder mystery parties themselves can have lots of different themes. There are wild west murder mystery parties, Hollywood murder mystery parties, pirate murder mystery parties and so on.
The safest thing when throwing a murder mystery party is to buy one - there are lots around and you can be sure that they work and that they’ve been tested. (Writing your own is a lot of hard work and if you have any kind of real life at all, probably to be avoided!)
The key thing to watch for on the kits is the number of players that they will cater for. You don’t want to buy a kit for 10 players if you have 15 people coming!
