Catholics: Homosexual acts in the same category as Murder?

Yes and in the eyes of God, murder is in the same category as me willfully stealing a pencil from my employer or looking at a woman and thinking, “Hmmmm….” To best understand sin, you have to first understand how holy God is. Isaiah described Him as holy, holy, holy. Repeating a pharse or word in Hebrew custom adds strength. Saying is three times puts it so high as to be out of reach. We cannot wrap our minds around how truly holy God is. When we try to do so, we can then begin to grasp how our sinful nature separates us from Him whether the sin be a homosexual act, murder or me lusting after a woman. These things separate us from a holy, holy, holy God but the good news is He made a way to reconcile us back to Him. (BTW, Jesus clarified murder as even being angry at your brother. I am very guilty of this)

I think you misunderstand about mortal sin.
Catholics do not believe in once saved, always saved.
1 John 5:16-17 - If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.
Catholics believe:
Mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will.
Venial sin is a sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it. Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent.
But continual venial sin can slowly but surely totally separate you from God, placing you into the state of mortal sin.

It all depends on the category. While the sins of murder and homosexual sex acts entail entirely different elements of morality, both sins are “the same” in that they cannot be morally justified no matter the circumstances.
That is correct.
The problem here is you don’t understand what a mortal sin entails. In order for a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be met. The first is grave matter. A mortal sin must entail a grave moral evil. Two examples of grave matter are murder and homosexual sex.
The second condition is that the sinner has full knowledge that the sin entails grave matter. The third condition is that, in spite of conditions one and two, the sinner commits the sin with full consent of the will.
No. They are seen as experimenting with same sex.

Understand that there are only two categories of sin:
a) mortal - those that will cause you to lose salvation if you do not repent them
b) “venial” - those that are not that serious
So it’s very much like the legal differentiation of “felony” and “misdemeanor”. Felonies include premeditated murder and “terroristic threatening”. How is threatening in the same category as murder? Because it is more violent than any misdemeanor.
Here is a partial list - but from the bible - of sins that cause a Christian to lose eternal life. Note that there are many things you might not expect if you are thinking of violent crimes
SO, it’s not a matter of “a homosexual act is just as bad as murder”. It’s a matter of “the eternal consequences of a homosexual act are just as severe as the eternal consequences of murder”.

It sounds like you feel that Catholics are calling homosexuals murders, or at least placing the two in the same category. The answer is we are talking about mortal sin. This offense kills the love of God in the soul, which if not repented of, leads to eternal damnation.
Homosexual acts (sins - in other words, premarital sex), is a mortal sin, just like heterosexual premarital sex, murder, theft, and so on. We’re not judging the person, only the action. The Catechism of the Catholic Church plainly says that homosexuals are children of God like everyone else and are to be equally loved and respected. What cannot be condoned is sinfulness, no matter if a homo- or heterosexual person commits it. We love the person, but we hate the sin.

Murder is the worst sacrilege and mass murder like abortion even more horrific
and homosexual acts, unless done with the knowledge that one may be giving another a quite possibly fatal and painful wasting disease, would not be in the same category as murder
but they could ,like all seriously grave immoral actions, share a category:mortal sin
For mortal sin one needs not only a serious matter(and heterosexual fornication would also be such a serious matter) but also full consent of the will and sufficient knowledge of the great evil of the action

Yes, it is, “A Cry to Heaven” it even says so in our religion books… I go to a Catholic School, but I am a full lesbian and engaged to my fiance who is obviously a woman. I love her dearly, and there’s no way I let even my religion come between that.
